Write a good signal prompt

Write a prompt that can be checked on the public web.

A signal is a name and a prompt. It says what to look for on each entry of the list.

Templates

Pick a template under Add a signal to start. A template has a tuned route and a fixed price. Edit its prompt and it becomes a custom prompt. The builder shows the new price before the edit is saved.

Custom prompts

A custom prompt runs as one monitor per company or person. It costs 1 credit per company and 2 per person for each check.

The prompt check

When you save a new name or prompt, Shadowspect checks that the prompt describes something that can be seen on the public web. Until the answer arrives the signal shows pending. If the prompt is rejected, you see the reason and often a rewrite. If the check could not run, choose Try again.

You cannot turn on an automation while a signal is pending or rejected.

First check

The first check of a signal on an entry only records a starting point. It does not report anything older. Alerts come from changes after that.

Tips

  • Name one event or change, such as "raises a funding round".
  • Say what counts, for example "a new VP of Sales is announced".
  • Avoid things nobody can see on the public web, such as "is thinking about buying".
